Interior Trim Logan WV

The original woodwork in Logan's company-built houses is often the best thing in the building — tall stained baseboard, wide casing, and profiles nobody has stocked in seventy years. Most of the trim work we do here is a decision about whether to keep it.

Had them out after the back steps started going soft underfoot. He came and looked properly before quoting anything, and told me the structure underneath was still sound — so it ended up a smaller job than I had braced myself for. Turned up when he said he would, cleaned up after himself, and the price at the end was the price we agreed. Not much more you can ask for.

Called on a Tuesday and had someone out the same week. What I appreciated most was being told straight what needed doing now and what could safely wait until spring. No pressure and no trying to talk me into the bigger version of the job. It has held up fine through the winter since.

The quote came through itemised and the final bill matched it, which has honestly not been my experience with everyone around here. They worked around an awkward driveway without once making it my problem, and left the place tidier than they found it. Would have them back.

The original trim is usually worth keeping

Coal-era houses in town and up the hollows were trimmed out in solid wood, generally stained rather than painted, and at heights nobody uses now. Baseboard that runs eight or nine inches tall is normal in these rooms, and it is a large part of why they feel proportioned the way they do.

How It Works

From first call to finished work — no surprises in between.

  1. A phone held over a workbench beside a notepad sketch of a deck marked up with dimensions — 16 by 12 feet, 36 inch rail, 2x8 pressure-treated joists at 16 inches on centre — with a tape measure and carpenter's pencil alongside

    Step 1

    Tell us about the project

Call, text, or send a message with what you're looking to build or repair. No form to fill in and no call centre — it comes straight to us, and you'll get a real answer about whether it's something we do.

  2. Kneeling under a deck to inspect the framing, using a flashlight and a probe to test a rotted band board where it meets a support post

    Step 2

Send photos or schedule a look

A few photos are often enough to tell us what we're dealing with. Where it isn't — anything structural, anything hidden underneath — we'll come out and look properly before quoting rather than guessing from the kerb.

  3. Going through a printed itemised quote line by line at a kitchen table, a tape measure and carpenter's pencil set down beside it

    Step 3

    Get a clear quote

You get a written quote that itemises the work, so you can see what you're paying for and what you aren't. If we think part of it isn't worth doing, we'll say so. No pressure and no surprises at the end.

  4. A finished pressure-treated deck with railing and steps on a West Virginia home, being walked through on completion, wooded hillside behind

    Step 4

    We build it right

We turn up when we said we would, work clean, and haul the offcuts away with us. The job gets built to last in this climate — and we'll walk it with you before we call it finished.

Interior Trim in Logan — common questions

Straight answers to what we get asked most.

Should I keep the original trim or replace it all?

Keep it where it is intact. It is taller and better made than anything you would buy now, and replacing it usually makes the room look flatter as well as costing more. Replacement makes sense when most of it is already gone or damaged.

Can you match my old casing?

Usually, by building the profile up from two or three modern stock pieces rather than custom-milling. We take a sample from a closet or behind a door where the gap will not show, and we will show you the match before it goes up.

Is it worth stripping the paint off my woodwork?

Honestly, rarely. It is slow work, older paint needs careful handling, and the result is often patchy. Most people here keep stain where it survives and go paint-grade in the rooms that were painted years ago.

One room was re-trimmed in the eighties and matches nothing. What now?

Either bring that room back to the house profile, or accept the change and make it deliberate by treating that room as its own scheme. What does not work is splitting the difference. We will price both.

Do you actually come out to Logan, or just Williamson?

Logan is a regular run for us — about 40 minutes from Williamson on US-119. It's well inside the hour we cover, and we're in Logan County often enough that it isn't a special trip.

Is a permit different in Logan County than in Mingo County?

It can be. Logan County and Mingo County administer permitting and inspection separately, so the same job can have different requirements depending which side of the line you're on. Structural work is the case where it matters most. We'll tell you what applies before we start rather than after.

My house is up a hollow with a narrow drive. Is that a problem?

No, it's normal here. It affects what we can haul in one trip and how long material handling takes, not whether the job can be done. We'd rather see the access before quoting so the number accounts for it.

What interior trim in Logan actually involves

Most people are buying a result, not a list of tasks. Pick a topic to see what we look at before quoting in Logan.

More on interior trim work in Logan

Where that trim is intact, replacing it with a modern profile makes the room smaller and flatter looking, and costs more than repairing what is there. Where a section has been damaged or a door has been changed, matching into the existing run is nearly always the better job.

What we are usually asked about is the middle case: original trim in most rooms, and one or two rooms that were redone at some point in a profile that matches nothing. That is a layout decision more than a carpentry one, and it is worth thinking about before buying material.
