Interior Trim Holden WV

Holden is the best place we work for matching original trim, and the reason is that the houses were built to a small number of standard patterns. The profile you need is usually still on the wall of a house two doors down.

Had them out after the back steps started going soft underfoot. He came and looked properly before quoting anything, and told me the structure underneath was still sound — so it ended up a smaller job than I had braced myself for. Turned up when he said he would, cleaned up after himself, and the price at the end was the price we agreed. Not much more you can ask for.

Called on a Tuesday and had someone out the same week. What I appreciated most was being told straight what needed doing now and what could safely wait until spring. No pressure and no trying to talk me into the bigger version of the job. It has held up fine through the winter since.

The quote came through itemised and the final bill matched it, which has honestly not been my experience with everyone around here. They worked around an awkward driveway without once making it my problem, and left the place tidier than they found it. Would have them back.

Matching is easier when the pattern is documented

Island Creek Coal built these houses to repeating plans across the numbered camps, which means the trim was repeating too. Same baseboard height, same casing, same corner blocks where they were used. Nearly a century on, that is a real advantage: when a section is missing or damaged, the original is usually still intact somewhere close by to measure from.

How It Works

From first call to finished work — no surprises in between.

  1. A phone held over a workbench beside a notepad sketch of a deck marked up with dimensions — 16 by 12 feet, 36 inch rail, 2x8 pressure-treated joists at 16 inches on centre — with a tape measure and carpenter's pencil alongside

    Step 1

    Tell us about the project

Call, text, or send a message with what you're looking to build or repair. No form to fill in and no call centre — it comes straight to us, and you'll get a real answer about whether it's something we do.

  2. Kneeling under a deck to inspect the framing, using a flashlight and a probe to test a rotted band board where it meets a support post

    Step 2

Send photos or schedule a look

A few photos are often enough to tell us what we're dealing with. Where it isn't — anything structural, anything hidden underneath — we'll come out and look properly before quoting rather than guessing from the kerb.

  3. Going through a printed itemised quote line by line at a kitchen table, a tape measure and carpenter's pencil set down beside it

    Step 3

    Get a clear quote

You get a written quote that itemises the work, so you can see what you're paying for and what you aren't. If we think part of it isn't worth doing, we'll say so. No pressure and no surprises at the end.

  4. A finished pressure-treated deck with railing and steps on a West Virginia home, being walked through on completion, wooded hillside behind

    Step 4

    We build it right

We turn up when we said we would, work clean, and haul the offcuts away with us. The job gets built to last in this climate — and we'll walk it with you before we call it finished.

Interior Trim in Holden — common questions

Straight answers to what we get asked most.

Can you match the original trim in a company house?

This is the best case for it. The houses were built to standard patterns, so the profile is usually still intact on the same street. We take an accurate section and reproduce it from stock pieces, or mill it where the run justifies that.

Why is the trim damaged only in the back rooms?

Because these houses are dug into the hill and water comes off the slope behind them. The damage concentrates on the uphill wall and low down, which inside means the back rooms and the trim nearest the floor.

Is custom milling worth it?

On a short run, rarely — building the profile up from two or three stock pieces gets close enough once painted. On a long run in a house where the original detail is intact elsewhere, it can be worth it, and we will price both.

My neighbour had the same work done. Does that help?

Often, yes. These houses share a plan, so what was found in theirs is a fair guide to yours, and the trim profile is confirmed rather than guessed.

Can you match the original detail on a company house?

Usually, and Holden is the best case for it. The houses were built to standard patterns, so the profile you need is generally still visible on the same street. Where something genuinely can't be sourced we'll show you the nearest option rather than substituting quietly.

My neighbour just had the same repair done. Does that mean mine is coming?

Quite possibly. These houses were built the same way at the same time on the same ground, so they tend to reach the same failures together. It's worth a look underneath before it becomes urgent.

The house is dug into the hill and the back is hard to get to. Is that an issue?

It's the normal situation in the camps and it's usually the side the work is on. It affects access and how long material handling takes, not whether the repair can be done properly.

What interior trim in Holden actually involves

Most people are buying a result, not a list of tasks. Pick a topic to see what we look at before quoting in Holden.

More on interior trim work in Holden

That takes the guesswork out of a match. Instead of approximating from a photograph, we can take a proper section off an undamaged run, work out how to reproduce it from stock pieces, and know it is right before anything is cut.

Where the profile genuinely cannot be built up from stock, having an accurate section is also what makes custom milling worth doing — and on a run long enough, milling to match is not the extravagance it sounds.
