Wood Repairs Lenore WV

Lenore's housing is mixed in a way that changes this work — older wood-framed houses up the hollows, and a good number of manufactured homes with structures added to them over the years. The rot we are called out for tends to be in what was added rather than in what arrived.

Had them out after the back steps started going soft underfoot. He came and looked properly before quoting anything, and told me the structure underneath was still sound — so it ended up a smaller job than I had braced myself for. Turned up when he said he would, cleaned up after himself, and the price at the end was the price we agreed. Not much more you can ask for.

Called on a Tuesday and had someone out the same week. What I appreciated most was being told straight what needed doing now and what could safely wait until spring. No pressure and no trying to talk me into the bigger version of the job. It has held up fine through the winter since.

The quote came through itemised and the final bill matched it, which has honestly not been my experience with everyone around here. They worked around an awkward driveway without once making it my problem, and left the place tidier than they found it. Would have them back.

Added structures are where it starts

Decks, porches, roofed entries, steps and skirting get added to homes here over time, and they are usually built closer to the ground and with less protection underneath than the home itself. That is where the damage concentrates.

How It Works

From first call to finished work — no surprises in between.

  1. A phone held over a workbench beside a notepad sketch of a deck marked up with dimensions — 16 by 12 feet, 36 inch rail, 2x8 pressure-treated joists at 16 inches on centre — with a tape measure and carpenter's pencil alongside

    Step 1

    Tell us about the project

Call, text, or send a message with what you're looking to build or repair. No form to fill in and no call centre — it comes straight to us, and you'll get a real answer about whether it's something we do.

  2. Kneeling under a deck to inspect the framing, using a flashlight and a probe to test a rotted band board where it meets a support post

    Step 2

Send photos or schedule a look

A few photos are often enough to tell us what we're dealing with. Where it isn't — anything structural, anything hidden underneath — we'll come out and look properly before quoting rather than guessing from the kerb.

  3. Going through a printed itemised quote line by line at a kitchen table, a tape measure and carpenter's pencil set down beside it

    Step 3

    Get a clear quote

You get a written quote that itemises the work, so you can see what you're paying for and what you aren't. If we think part of it isn't worth doing, we'll say so. No pressure and no surprises at the end.

  4. A finished pressure-treated deck with railing and steps on a West Virginia home, being walked through on completion, wooded hillside behind

    Step 4

    We build it right

We turn up when we said we would, work clean, and haul the offcuts away with us. The job gets built to last in this climate — and we'll walk it with you before we call it finished.

Wood Repairs in Lenore — common questions

Straight answers to what we get asked most.

Is rot on a manufactured home different?

The home itself is usually not the problem — what was added to it is. Steps, skirting, decks and roofed entries sit closer to the ground with less protection, and that is where we find it. Where something was attached to the home rather than standing on its own footings, that is structural as well as rotten.

Everything looked fine and then it didn't. Why so sudden?

Because the rot was at the bearing points rather than on the surface. In conditions where a structure never fully dries, damage works quietly at the points carrying load while everything visible stays sound — so it holds for years and then goes quickly.

Can carpentry fix water running down the hollow at my house?

It can make the structure handle it — ground-contact material, standoffs, a proper break between wood and soil. Regrading the ground itself is a different trade and we will tell you that rather than charging you to not fix it.

My driveway won't take a trailer. Does that stop the job?

No, it is common up the hollows here. It affects how material gets in and how many trips it takes, which we build into the quote rather than discovering on the day.

I have a manufactured home. Can you build a deck onto it?

Yes, and it should be built free-standing on its own footings rather than hung off the home's frame. That's the correct way to do it and it's what we'll quote. If you have an existing deck that was attached to the home, that's worth us looking at.

Water runs down the hollow toward my house. Can carpentry fix that?

Carpentry can make the structure handle it — proper standoffs, ground-contact material where it belongs, drainage kept away from posts and steps. Regrading the ground itself is a different trade and we'll tell you that rather than charging you to not fix it.

My driveway won't take a trailer. Is that a problem?

It's common up the hollows here. It affects how material gets in and how many trips it takes, which we build into the quote instead of discovering on the day.

What wood repairs in Lenore actually involves

Most people are buying a result, not a list of tasks. Pick a topic to see what we look at before quoting in Lenore.

More on wood repair work in Lenore

On a manufactured home the specific things we find are skirting and underpinning framing sitting directly on soil, steps whose stringers land in wet ground, and the framing of anything that was attached to the home rather than standing on its own footings. The last of those is structural as well as rotten, and it is worth knowing which you have.

On the older wood-framed houses it is the familiar pattern — sill plates, joist ends over a damp crawl space, and door frames taking splash-back from ground that sheds toward the house.
