Deck Builder Chattaroy WV

Most deck calls in Chattaroy involve an addition somewhere. Houses here have been added onto over the years rather than replaced, and the deck usually ends up attached to the newest part of the house — which is often the part we can vouch for least.

Had them out after the back steps started going soft underfoot. He came and looked properly before quoting anything, and told me the structure underneath was still sound — so it ended up a smaller job than I had braced myself for. Turned up when he said he would, cleaned up after himself, and the price at the end was the price we agreed. Not much more you can ask for.

Called on a Tuesday and had someone out the same week. What I appreciated most was being told straight what needed doing now and what could safely wait until spring. No pressure and no trying to talk me into the bigger version of the job. It has held up fine through the winter since.

The quote came through itemised and the final bill matched it, which has honestly not been my experience with everyone around here. They worked around an awkward driveway without once making it my problem, and left the place tidier than they found it. Would have them back.

Decks onto additions

The pattern here is consistent: an original house with a rear addition or an enclosed back room built later, frequently by different hands and to a different standard. That joint between old and new is where water gets in, and it is where framing gives up first.

How It Works

From first call to finished work — no surprises in between.

  1. A phone held over a workbench beside a notepad sketch of a deck marked up with dimensions — 16 by 12 feet, 36 inch rail, 2x8 pressure-treated joists at 16 inches on centre — with a tape measure and carpenter's pencil alongside

    Step 1

    Tell us about the project

Call, text, or send a message with what you're looking to build or repair. No form to fill in and no call centre — it comes straight to us, and you'll get a real answer about whether it's something we do.

  2. Kneeling under a deck to inspect the framing, using a flashlight and a probe to test a rotted band board where it meets a support post

    Step 2

Send photos or schedule a look

A few photos are often enough to tell us what we're dealing with. Where it isn't — anything structural, anything hidden underneath — we'll come out and look properly before quoting rather than guessing from the kerb.

  3. Going through a printed itemised quote line by line at a kitchen table, a tape measure and carpenter's pencil set down beside it

    Step 3

    Get a clear quote

You get a written quote that itemises the work, so you can see what you're paying for and what you aren't. If we think part of it isn't worth doing, we'll say so. No pressure and no surprises at the end.

  4. A finished pressure-treated deck with railing and steps on a West Virginia home, being walked through on completion, wooded hillside behind

    Step 4

    We build it right

We turn up when we said we would, work clean, and haul the offcuts away with us. The job gets built to last in this climate — and we'll walk it with you before we call it finished.

Decks in Chattaroy — common questions

Straight answers to what we get asked most.

Can you attach a deck to my back addition?

Sometimes, and we look before saying so. Additions here were often built onto the original house over time, and what is behind the siding varies a lot. If there is sound band board to bolt into, we attach and flash it properly. If not, we build free-standing on its own footings — a bit more work underneath, and no reliance on framing we can't vouch for.

The house has flooded before. Does that change how you build a deck?

It changes what we check and what we build with, not whether it can be done. We probe the low framing rather than judging by feel, and we use ground-contact material and standoff bases so the new structure isn't sitting where the old damage happened.

Is a small deck repair worth you coming out for?

Here, yes. We're about ten minutes away, so a half-day job on a set of steps or a run of boards doesn't carry travel that makes it awkward. That's genuinely not true of everywhere we cover.

How long does a deck like mine take to build?

A straightforward ground-level deck is usually a few days once footings are in. Anything where we find framing that needs sorting first takes longer, and we'd tell you that at the quote rather than partway through.

Is Chattaroy too small a job for you to come out?

No, and it's the one place where that's least likely to be a problem. We're about ten minutes away, so small repairs here don't carry the travel cost that makes them awkward further out.

My back addition is the part that's failing. Is that normal?

It's the most common thing we find in Chattaroy. Additions here were frequently built onto the original house over time, and the joint between old and new is usually where water gets in and framing gives up first.

The house has flooded before. Does that change the repair?

It changes what we check, not what we can do. We probe the low framing rather than judging by what the floor feels like, because flood rot shows up years later and well below where anyone is looking.

What decks in Chattaroy actually involves

Most people are buying a result, not a list of tasks. Pick a topic to see what we look at before quoting in Chattaroy.

More on deck work in Chattaroy

A deck ledger has to bolt into solid framing. On an addition, what is behind the siding is an open question — sometimes a proper band board, sometimes a sole plate sitting on a slab with very little moisture break under it. We open it up and look rather than guessing, because a ledger fastened into something that isn't carrying is the failure that takes the deck down with people on it.

Where the addition can't be relied on, free-standing is the answer. The deck stands on its own posts and footings and touches the house without depending on it, which sidesteps the whole question.
