Custom Carpentry Kermit WV

Kermit's houses are packed onto a narrow flat with almost no room around them, and there is not much room inside either. When a house cannot get bigger, the only way to get more out of it is to use the space it already has properly.

Had them out after the back steps started going soft underfoot. He came and looked properly before quoting anything, and told me the structure underneath was still sound — so it ended up a smaller job than I had braced myself for. Turned up when he said he would, cleaned up after himself, and the price at the end was the price we agreed. Not much more you can ask for.

Called on a Tuesday and had someone out the same week. What I appreciated most was being told straight what needed doing now and what could safely wait until spring. No pressure and no trying to talk me into the bigger version of the job. It has held up fine through the winter since.

The quote came through itemised and the final bill matched it, which has honestly not been my experience with everyone around here. They worked around an awkward driveway without once making it my problem, and left the place tidier than they found it. Would have them back.

There is no room to build outward

In most towns the answer to needing more space is an addition. Here the lots often will not take one — there is very little between the buildings and very little behind them — so the alternative is to make the existing rooms carry more.

How It Works

From first call to finished work — no surprises in between.

  1. A phone held over a workbench beside a notepad sketch of a deck marked up with dimensions — 16 by 12 feet, 36 inch rail, 2x8 pressure-treated joists at 16 inches on centre — with a tape measure and carpenter's pencil alongside

    Step 1

    Tell us about the project

Call, text, or send a message with what you're looking to build or repair. No form to fill in and no call centre — it comes straight to us, and you'll get a real answer about whether it's something we do.

  2. Kneeling under a deck to inspect the framing, using a flashlight and a probe to test a rotted band board where it meets a support post

    Step 2

Send photos or schedule a look

A few photos are often enough to tell us what we're dealing with. Where it isn't — anything structural, anything hidden underneath — we'll come out and look properly before quoting rather than guessing from the kerb.

  3. Going through a printed itemised quote line by line at a kitchen table, a tape measure and carpenter's pencil set down beside it

    Step 3

    Get a clear quote

You get a written quote that itemises the work, so you can see what you're paying for and what you aren't. If we think part of it isn't worth doing, we'll say so. No pressure and no surprises at the end.

  4. A finished pressure-treated deck with railing and steps on a West Virginia home, being walked through on completion, wooded hillside behind

    Step 4

    We build it right

We turn up when we said we would, work clean, and haul the offcuts away with us. The job gets built to last in this climate — and we'll walk it with you before we call it finished.

Custom Carpentry in Kermit — common questions

Straight answers to what we get asked most.

I can't extend. What can actually be gained?

More than people expect, because the space is already there and unused — understairs, alcoves, beside a chimney, under a window, and above door height. None of those are sizes anything bought will match, which is exactly why they stay empty.

Is storage above door height practical?

For things you keep but rarely touch, it is some of the most useful space in a small house. It disappears visually and it takes pressure off the cupboards you use daily.

The house has flooded before. Does that affect fitted furniture?

It affects what we check and how the base is detailed. We look at what is behind the surface before fixing anything permanent, and where the bottom of a wall or floor stays damp we build the piece to sit clear of it — which costs nothing if it is decided at design stage.

Will a finished piece get up my stairs?

Often not, so we build in sections and assemble in the room. It is standard practice for us and it gives a better fit in rooms this shape.

You're right on the Kentucky line. Do you work across the river?

No. We stay on the West Virginia side — that's a licensing matter, not a distance one. Kermit itself is well inside the area we cover.

My house flooded years ago and seemed fine. Should I still have it looked at?

Yes. Flood damage in framing is biological, not immediate — the wetting starts rot that works through joist ends and post bottoms over years. The floor above it can feel solid the whole time.

There's nowhere to park at my house. Does that stop the job?

No, it's normal in town here. It affects staging and carry time, which we allow for in the quote.

What custom carpentry in Kermit actually involves

Most people are buying a result, not a list of tasks. Pick a topic to see what we look at before quoting in Kermit.

More on custom carpentry work in Kermit

That is where built-to-fit work earns its place. Understairs voids, alcoves, the wall beside a chimney, and the depth under a window are all currently doing nothing, and each is a size that nothing bought will match.

Going up is the other move. Storage above door height disappears from a room visually and holds a great deal of what a household needs to keep and rarely uses, which is exactly what a small house needs to get out of its cupboards.
