The porches on Logan's older houses were framed with untreated lumber, set close to the ground, and supported on block or stone piers rather than a continuous foundation. That was normal construction for the period and it works fine while the drainage works. The problem is that it leaves the framing sitting in the wettest part of the structure with the least airflow.
